Manila City Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso is eyeing to build more public housing projects for informal settlers located in the nation’s capital. Among the housing projects set to be built is the Phase 2 of the Basecommunity public housing project.
Domagoso announced in May this year that the LGU was set to build three more residential buildings. The groundbreaking ceremony for the San Lazaro Residences happened in July. Pedro Gil Residences broke ground last month, while San Sebastian Residences is also expected to break ground soon.

The key figure leading the pandemic response in the City of Manila was Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso, a former actor elected to his post in May 2019. One month into the pandemic, Mayor Isko enforced a hard lockdown in the areas of Tondo and Sampaloc, both with high concentrations of urban poor, to control COVID-19 outbreaks. In July, an additional 31 barangays were placed under hard lockdowns due to rising COVID-19 cases.
The Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila was turned into a 600-bed quarantine facility. Eight months into the pandemic, Mayor Isko was handing out cash incentives of PhP100,000 (US$2,000) to 73 barangays that had recorded zero COVID-19 infections during the previous two months.

Isko Moreno thumbs down task forces and czars, and promises goal-setting and results-oriented pandemic leadership. Moreno cited the 344-bed COVID-19 field hospital Manila was able to build in 52 days in preparation for the Delta variant. On Thursday, October 29, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno signed Ordinance No. 8695 or the Manila LGBTQI Protection Ordinance of 2020. The ordinance bans discrimination on the basis of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE). It defined discrimination as: “Any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or other differential treatment that is directly or indirectly based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression which has the intention or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise on an equal footing of political, civil, economic, social, and cultural rights.”
